Where did coffee originate?

It’s commonly believed that the powerful effects of the coffee bean were first discovered in Ethiopia in the 9th Century AD. From Ethiopia, coffee was said to have spread to Egypt and Yemen, where the earliest credible evidence of coffee drinking appears in the middle of the 15th Century in the Sufi monasteries of Yemen. By the 16th Century, coffee was being roasted and brewed across the rest of the Middle East, Persia, Turkey and Northern Africa.
